Getting a little discouraged...
Hey all,
I've been looking for an SS since early December now and so far three have popped up and vanished before I could get to them to look. I'm checking all the major car sites/ebay etc and this thing is proving a little difficult to find. I'm seeing them scattered all over the North and West but nothing down here in the South East. With my work schedule I just can't make a 600+ mile trip with no guarantee of getting one so I'm hoping one will pop up closer.
My First choice is a 2009,10 Victory Red 5spd. I'd like to have the RPD but not a deal breaker on not having that but would be nice I think.
I'm actually considering maybe getting an automatic. After reading on these forums I see a lot of other SS members swaying towards an auto but I just can't decide.
CarMax has a Blue Flash Metallic with all the options I want and 50K miles on the odo in Auto right now... I'm still just uncertain If I want an auto or not. I've driven an auto in the past and I remember it being quick but I'd like to at least drive a 5spd as well to compare.
Question on the auto's though. Do they all come with remote start? That would be a nice feature to have if I go that route.
TL;DR - Looking for an SS5spd, Not having much luck and getting discouraged.

The autos should all have the remote start.
(I don't think there were any rental SS's which would have had the remote start delete)
Unfortunatley, trying to find a SS 5 spd down in the Southeast is a tough one. Same thing here. I could not locate a 5 speed. So, in 2009, I just ordered a new 2010.
I know that's not an option for you, but hang in there. Patience, if you really want the 5 speed.
If you're down in my area in the near future, give me a holler. We'll go take a ride in mine.
(Sunny days only. It doesn't come out in the rain.

Hehe. Yeah I've only seen 3 so far that we're red/5spds and they all vanished quickly
I'm checking all the local area dealers along with cars.com and autotrader as well. I want to trade my current car in so it can't be a private seller. When you factor out the 2008s only a small handful pop up and there just to far away for me
When I look at automatics I have a few choices within a few hundred miles.
I read a thread a few pages in where it seemed like a lot of people preferred the autos because with a few mods you could put some crazy numbers on it. I guess I'll give it a little while longer for one to pop up close by.
I just don't want to wait too long and not be able to get one

Member looking for an HHR SS?
There was a new member, recently, looking at 2 HHR SS, one was in the Atlanta area at a Carmax. They were specifically looking for one with a 5-spd. One was just posted today, but it's down in FL, but, you still might want to check it out....

The 5sp and auto will put up the same HP/tq if they have the same mods. The auto will benefit on the drag strip because it's easier to launch and shifts quicker/more consistent. The remote start is a big plus especially if you have cold winters.
I've had both and currently own the 5sp. I miss the remote start and how much faster it was at the strip but man the 5sp is FUN! Tough decision for sure. Most of the 5sp also come with limited slip front diff which is a HUGE help for traction. If it was me I would hold out for a 2010 with performance package which includes all the goodies like LSD(5sp only), Rpd, brembos ect. The 2010 models got all the factory options since it was the last year of production GM needed to get rid of all the goodies so they were standard equip for 2010. You could always try to get everything included in the loan too like liscencing and shipment if it's that far away. That's the way I did it and had mine shipped to me and also had dealer install GMTU included in the price.

Thanks for the info. I have a trade and so far all the dealers want to see it in person and won't deal with me without being there
I can't chance heading out far and the deal not go through because of a low ball trade offer. I don't want to deal with trying to privately selling mine either and not have a car etc.
Just got to many odds against me
