Are you interested in purchasing a pair of these axles for your 2008-2010 HHR SS Automatic? If so, The Driveshaft Shop may be able to install OEM GM CV boots at your request.

I'd hazard a guess that the composition of the boot material itself would be even more important than the number of folds in it. The Driveshaft Shop seems to produce a high quality product, so I suspect that they would have tested and will stand behind their product.

We appreciate jojo jumping in there and being the guinea pig on this.

I apologize if anyone thought I was trying to impugn anybody's reputation.

It is my personal experience, on 2 different cars, that 2-3 folds on the outer end will rub on each other and split in the valley in very short order. The outer ends pivot very severely.

Firestone was in business for over 100 years when they produced defective tires for Ford.

That's interesting donbrew - there must be a whole science around designing the boots:
Material
Thickness
Number of pleats
Angles of movement
and more no doubt.

I appreciate your concern and should have ignored your initial concern regarding the issue about the boot splitting on an axle I just purchased and haven't even installed. The second image you posted is from step 7 from an online tutorial. The example automobile is a 2001 Suzuki. https://www.google.com/amp/www.instr...mp_page%3Dtrue

Just replace the damn thing with the cheapo axle and then come back in a few months asking why the boot is ripped. We are waiting.....

I started this thread to find a solution for replacement axles for our HHR SS Turbo Automatics. To solve a problem and to help others, not to start problems... No need for the disrespect on your behalf. These axles were an upgraded version. I'm unclear/unsure how you also assume for sure that these will simply fail by just looking at a picture.

And we appreciate it, but we are trying to save you the trouble of having to replace the axles again. With boots like the ones pictures, they will fail shortly after install. They may be cheap, but by the time you replace them for a third time due to boot failure you could have gone OEM. Alot of owners are well into the 200K mile range and above rolling down the rode on the original axle assemblies. My 06 with 222K miles still has unscathed axles and boots.
