I went to the AAA website to see what they are charging for auto loans these days. For up to 36 months, you can get 5.14% through Capitol One Finance, if you use the direct payment from your checking account option.

This is an interesting concept - if they approve you for a loan, they send you a check, then you sign it over to the dealer when buying. When the dealer cashes the check, the load starts at that point. If you never sign it over, the loan never starts.

Since I will not be trading in, nor will I be getting a loan through the dealer, this should make it the easiest (simplest) car purchase I've ever had. It really sucks when you have to spend hours signed form after form.

I've had so many problems with the GM/Chevy vehicle locator it's not funny. And I've had problems opening Window stickers on Firefox/PC, IE/PC, Safari/Mac, Firefox/Mac, etc.. Some days it works, some days it doesn't.

Also, that website is woefully out of date too. I couldn't find a SINGLE 5-speed manual from that site within 200 miles of me -- but I called a dealer and he located 3 within 120 miles.

I'd just call a dealer you want to work with and try to do a trade. If they can't do the trade they'll tell you who the other dealership is and you can get it. The Dealers have a far better (and accurate) vehicle location system than the one Chevy lets us use.

I wanted an SS with 5-speed, sunroof, and limited-slip. The Canadian online search doesn't give you anything except the auto/manual, colour and model.

So I called all the dealers that the website said had SS's to arrange a test-drive, but the site was so out of date or inaccurate that nobody had seen an SS for a long time.

I went to my local dealer, and his internal software could search (including the features) and we narrowed it down to two cars in Ontario with the features I wanted.

Computers are great, but it was a hell of a lot faster and easier to just go to the dealership.
