Thanks for the suggestions. I bought the car with 5k on it, I wanted the SS, and could not find a new one. They are going to pay, that is good. Things look different another day! The cop was my nephew's partner before my nephew went to the Highway Patrol. I produced identification showing I was retired from a State law-enforcement agency (never locked any one up, just a head shrinker but they gave me a badge for 30 years!), and had a VFW license plate. You would think our young Turk would've let me walk. Oh well, the laws applies to everyone, right?

I've had 1 car receive a tint ticket (out of 5 with tinted windows), 2 times by the same cop, while my wife was driving it. They weren't nearly as dark as the car I had after that and same as what I have now. Depends on the cop, the car and the day.

While the law may be applicable to everyone; it is clearly not equally applied, as evidenced by the law enforcement exemption.

"(8) A window of a law enforcement vehicle."

This exemption is made because of law enforcement vehicles being used in undercover operations, for sensitive prisoner transport, and those units used for traffic enforcement where they are parked for long periods while occupied. The extra deep tint lowers the load on the A/C and helps prevent overheating as the vehicles idle.

In LA it's a money deal. Was on Lincoln the other day and got a fix it ticket for the front window tint.

Asked why, the cop said for safety so you can see out.

I said, then why not ban sun glasses. He smiled, wrote the ticket and told me to have a nice day.

During that period 5 cops we're pulling over 5 civilians. All on something they didn't like.

Around here if the cops did nothing but write tickets for dark tint, it would take them at least 25 years.....24hrs a day!

It's about revenue and it was your turn.....

I'm surprised the dealer did anything but remove the aftermarket tint!

I don't see anywhere where you say if you had the windows tinted, or bought it that way. (forgive me if I missed it) If you had them done the tinter should have told you the potential for this. If you bought it that way, and had no experience with tinted windows, you may not know.
Point being....it's your responsibility regardless, pleading ignorance and pointing fingers, regardless of being the american way as of late, is no defense. I've had slightly darker then legal tint on every car I've owned for the last 20 years. The only ticket I got, ironically, was for a Chevy truck I bought from the dealer, previously owned by a detective.
Sounds to me like you're getting a more than fair deal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, because it's just a money thing and I guess it's the law of the state.

Still, as he was writing me a ticket, a bicyclist crossed three lanes of traffic and went left running the light.

Two wrongs don't make a right and one shouldn't have anything to do with the other, but had I done that in a car, I'd have a huge ticket.

What I really dislike is how difficult it has become to customize your car for your own style.

I'm in Germany today and it amazes me how few custom cars I see. Obviously there is a ton of German iron, but everything I've seen so far is bone stock.

It's way to homogonized for my liking.

I can understand smog regs, but the rest is just a bunch of people thinking they know better than you do and in so what we might gain in little safety we give up a lot of individuality.

IMO

Jeff.....

Always heard (for about 35 years now) that Ohio State Troopers were the "toughest" with traffic violators.

Had an occasion to attend a school many years ago that was sponsored by them. After personally meeting them and hearing their "war stories", I also formed that opinion.
