HHR SS Stage 1 vs. Hyundai Genesis V-6
I would never buy a Hyundia but they need to be watched as they are not just a threat to our cars but also Toyota and Honda.
Most of the compareable models are cheaper vs competitors offerings. Most the people I know that have them shop by montly payment and they were the cheapest.
As for RWD the HHR and Cobalt are in a class that does not fit RWD. I love RWD but GM needs to get FWD right as most of the buyers in todays market want FWD.
Also the HHR would wiegh much more than they do now. RWD would add at least 200 pounds. The main reason for FWD is that it is lighter. The extra 200-300 pounds would put a HHR near 3500-3600 pounds. The object was to make a lighter affordable economical hauler and that is what it is. If you want RWD/AWD should have bought a Trailblazer and note the weight and cost of it.
Note the RWD Asian cars are all sports/perfomance cars and most are expensive. The imports are not going to make the average small cars RWD and if they do it will be very limited.
GM needs a FWD replacment that is not as good as a Honda or Toyota but one that is better. THe Cruze is coming and I have read a could good reviews on it. The question is once it gewt here is it still going to be good enough?
GM does have the smaller Alpha RWD platform plannedand it is coming [depending on how the Bankruptcy goes] in a couple years. It will base Cadillac, a new Camaro and a few other specalty cars but it will never be the main line product for all the GM line.

I'll admit to never owning one, but I think a lot of posts here don't understand that Hyundia is known to be one of the more reliable car companies out there right now. I'm sure GM would trade Saturn and Pontiac straight up for Hyundia at this point.

Wow I can't believe how close minded some of you are to other car companies. I'm a mechanic and worked for a few companies. I did my apprenticeship through GM and worked there for 6 years. I'm not on here to trash any other company they all have there good and bad qualities. They all go through good times and bad and they all have good models and bad ones. I think GM has come along way with what they are putting on the road today. They really stepped up but they slacked off for so long that now they need to catch up and get there company back on it's feet.

I find the same with Honda, Toyota and other import owners. They often think the imports are better than anything domestic and that is no longer true either.
It happens to all makes.
With Hyundia many remember the first ones that were imported and you could not keep them running or brakes on them. They would have been the worse car on the road at the time if it had not been for the Yugo.
Today they have imporved and offer a warrarnty to back them up.
I would not buy one just because I want to support American based MFG. evne if the HHR is imported it the base company is here.
In my checking out of this site I came across this thread regarding the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Well we happen to own both, an '09 HHR SS automatic with the Stage I kit and an '10 Hyundai Genesis Coupe V-6 (the base version) which is my wife's car.
We love both vehicles but it is like comparing apples to oranges. Performance wise my SS will stay right with her Genesis V-6 it's pretty much an even race side by side at speed. We haven't tried yet from a stop. I would have to say that the build quality (fit & finish) is better on the Genesis than my HHR but I can carry more people and haul things that her's can't.
Her Genesis has the ZF 6speed automatic with the paddle shifters which I am still getting used to. I like the exhaust note of the V-6 much better than my SS but I get much better gas mileage. Like I say, they are very different vehicles but both meet our needs (and wants) very well.

Well, we all own GM now, so we might as well buy one. I've always been a GM guy, but if they were building crap, I'd have to go somewhere else. Dodge builds a hell of a truck ( structurally ) but their electronics blow chunks, so I'll never own another one of them. I too, think a rear drive HHR would be fun to drive, but I'm happy with my 1st front drive vehicle.
