Yes, I believe that the front door glass gets pulled away slightly from the weatherstripping and starts vibrating (My theory anyway). Personally top speed isn't my thing, I enjoy the excellent handling and acceleration in 2nd and 3rd gear more than anything.

As far as how to enhance top speed, unless you are going uphill weight reduction is not much help, it is all about pushing air, so look to lower ride height, front air dam improvements, smoothing over and reducing size of front grill areas (radiator, IC, fog lights) then wipers, antenna, mirrors, wheels (think full moons). Low rolling resistance tires (a new spec that eventually will be required on all tires) run at highest possible pressure too.

Iceman, if you ever find yourself driving northeast through Oklahoma on the I-44 toll road, you'll have plenty of opportunities to let it run. Frequent breaks where there's no exit for 20+ miles, nowhere for the cops to hide except in plain sight, and the roads are plenty straight enough for a radar detector to be "reasonably" effective at giving you a fair warning. You'll even hit a few downhill slopes to help you out. I drive from Austin to St. Louis at least once a year, and this is sadly the highlight of the trip. I have seen people pulled over there two, maybe three times, but there's just a ton of open road, and generally not a lot of traffic, to play with.

Are you saying the HHR SS is a transformer like its sister the Camaro?

What tires did you go with? My SS seems kinda light and twitchy above 110 or so, not planted like a Trans Am, Corvette, or my Trailblazer SS at high speeds.

i too have noticed the lack of GRIP that our tires have, almost bald when looking at them, small slits for grip, but huge water valleys, just about ready to to put some good GRIPPERS on them.

Which all have a wider track and wider tires! The wiggling you feel is the air getting under the vehicle, not the tires. Ive had my SS thru some tight turns at some speeds that would make you cringe, and no problems..any faster and Id need to respring and shock it and go to a wider tire..Pedders did skid pad tests with these cars and they did great numbers .91 if I remember right.( yes the car had springs and shocks) This car does not have a low center of gravity and its also a box on wheels...any and I mean any side winds at those speeds wil be felt, just like any other bilboard shaped car, unless its lowered and the underside air flows reduced. My oversized truck would 'float' at about 90 mph, then I t was lowered, it felt as tight at 130 that it did at 50 and this was done on the German Autobahn, above 75 you can feel the vehicle suck down......and never compare this car to a Vette...
