Hood Alignment Question by MR. ANAL...
I saw the gap above the fender and you are correct. However the gap that I am talking about is where the grill meets the bumper indention. In your picture there is little to no gap on the side without a steering wheel and on the side with the steering wheel there appears to be about a 1/4 inch or better gap. I think you just didin't read what I said closely enough. Sorry for the misunderstanding...
no problem, believe me I appreciate the extra set of eyes looking, I may have misunderstood you and not realized what you meant. check out the following pics and tell me what you think.........
went out and made the adjustment. after looking at the driver & passenger side gap and the way the hood was laying, I determined that the hood on the driver's side needed to come up rather than go down. it almost seemed that hood was bellowed on the driver's side and I did notice from weeks ago, a very slight indentation on the driver's side of the hood towards the windshield area. only something MR. ANAL would notice, among other things, but that is for another thread.
I also would like to clarify, that I just love cars period, and I do look over everything that I can, even have noticed some slight paint imperfections, but only I know where they are....
so I am not complaining by any means, just trying to make our HHR's better than what they are.
now back to the adjustment; I also noticed that the gap between the top side of the hood and the front door on both sides were not the same either. the driver's side had more of a slanted gap being wider at the top and lower at the bottom, as the passenger side was even from top to bottom. when you look at the pics, you will see what I mean. also the rubber "stops" had a different amount of threads showing on each side. now sometimes, this means nothing, because of tolerances, gaps, etc., but on mine, I think it made a difference. on the driver's side "stop" I marked where I started and turned counterclock wise to raise the "stop". I did this a small amount at a time, and measured, looked, used my finger, ruler, etc., etc., to make sure the gaps were coming close together. the final adjustment was almost 1 entire turn upwards to get to this point. I think it looks good from the pics you will see. but your eyes are also helpful in these situations. so let me know what you think.....
and one final thing, no comments about my sexy legs in the front bumper, as the refection sure does make them look hot....

after looking more closely at the gaps myself on these pics, although the driver's side is now even from top to bottom, it still appears to be a fraction wider than the passenger side, but the way the gaps on the side of the hood are now, I may not mess with it anymore..............

You do know that the tighter gap was giving you that down force needed for quick left hand turns? She's gonna be tight in, loose out and won't rotate thru the turn! 'course you could make a tire pressure change.
Okay here are my thoughts:
1) The picture is crooked not the hood and fenders.
2) What is the bristle brush looking thing next to the power cord outlet used for on the HHR?
3) If there really is a difference in gaps from left to right, this vehicle should be taken to a salvage yard and immediately crushed.

thank you....thank you....

make sure you check the hood to fender gap first, then check your hood to door gaps, you should be able to determine if it needs an adjustment.
another clue that suggested it was off, was that the point of the hood where it meets the point of the door was not the same on both sides
I don't know how to draw arrows on the pics, I guess you can do it in "paint", have to learn, then I can show you better what I mean...
THANKS for all of the responses....much appreciated.....
