I also have that dent on the driver's side, it probably is in the same location as yours.... I may end up fixing that myself...

Digging up an old post here...My '10 LS (purchased used) has the same issue. I actually used google to search for related issues/problems and this forum post was the first hit. LOVE this site!

If you wanted the gaps in hood, fenders, doors, ect. to perfectly line up,, you should have bought a Lexus, or some other high end car. The HHR's are a low end , people and delivery vehicles, for the masses, and never intended to be a high end vehicle.
For the amount of money they went for new, and what they are worth now, proves that point.
Also, They were never intended to be a high performance vehicle, and never will be as such. Quick-yes, Unique- yes, but no cigar.
What you you expect from a vehicle assembled in Mexico, by a Latino, that might be having a bad hair day. "Moon"

Panel gaps can be adjusted. It's not that big of a deal to me. Price does not have to equate to poor craftsmanship. In todays mechanized and computer controlled assembly there is no excuse. I picked my hhr because I needed the versatility of a hatch or wagon and I loved the looks. I must say with the exception of a drab interior and odd panel fitment, I've been greatly impressed. I take greater issue with some other odd issues, oil filter placement, air filter directly above engine where it gets heatsoaked, headlights that can't be accessed from the engine bay. I will gladly accept it's foibles and annoyances for the uniqueness and character it possesses that most cookie cutter family sedans and eco cars can't come close to matching.

I'm not too overly concerned with it. I'm going to try adjusting the hood rests tomorrow and see if that helps with getting the gap to close up some, but if not, no biggie. Love the car nonetheless!
