Intresting intake solution
Intresting intake solution
Traveling back to Pensacola over the weekend I saw a guy at Mikey D's advertising a/an cooling kit for engine intakes, on the side of his truck. Long story short, the guy is waiting or just got patents on this product. I just wanted everyone's take on this........Personally, I don't want to "get on it" while my A/C is running(had a bad experience with poping heater cores). But, his product seems very convincing and at the very least starts to get the mind thinking.........
If I could find a stand-alone A/C unit that only requires 12v power and has a high-enough CFM I might be inclined to try and rig something.
In any case check out his sight

, I thought the product was strange, but the guy has them on all city vehicles, and county school busses. He claims 60-70 degrees on the intake air. unfortunately, he has yet to apply the product to a sports car, but his claims are realistic if it doesn't affect/effect the MAF sensor. I also have a huge problem with getting extra HP from my A/C. and as I can remember all the school busses I ever rode didn't have A/C's. Just looking for other input, past the obvious jokes of tin-foil, and the vision of "the Gate Keeper" from Ghostbusters
There was a "Super Cooler" on the F-150 lightning concept. I forget exactly how it works, but it used the AC system. Let me look it up...
Here it is. Found in Truck Trend:
" (John) Colletti's always wondered about taking intercooling to the next level, when air-to-air and air-to-water intercoolers don't adequately chill the incoming air to make the charge dense enough. Enter Ford's new patented SuperCooler technology. Unlike traditional intercoolers that dissipate heat from the supercharged air by circulating coolant through a front-mounted air-cooled radiator, the SuperCooler uses the vehicle's air-conditioning system to chill a small storage tank of coolant to about 30 degrees Fahrenheit.
The result is a system that, on demand, dumps the frigid coolant into the engine's intercooler, dissipating up to 20 percent more heat from the air charge, making it ultradense and upping horsepower in the process. Although sources within SVT say this system can deliver 50 transient horsepower per 30-45-second burst, experts in the supercharging realm claim the system could actually boost output by 75-100 horsepower under the right conditions.
The SuperCooler is surprisingly easy to use: When the green lamp illuminates on the dash (indicating the system is ready), just mash the throttle to the floor and the refrigerated coolant floods the intercooler for a nitrous-oxide effect, without the environmental hazards of laughing gas."
I'm surprised nothing like this has come out aftermarket yet. It would be great for those of us down south who see 30*F maybe two days a year.

I knew a guy that utilized a Pelteir Effect cooling sysytem on the intake of his diesel truck. He didn't claim a lot of HP gain but did say it provided enough "boost" to help pulling his trailer trailer in AZ mountains.
It's a simple application, but I believe it only provides about a 40 degree reduction in temperature.....maybe enough for something like the CGS that uses the engine compartment air.
