Just a piece of TRIVIA

Wanna impress your friends with how informative your HHR is? Show them the indicator on the instrument panel that indicates what side of the car the fuel door is. Yep, there is a tiny arrow on the right side of the gas pump figure that points to the right.

There was a urban legend a while back that said the handle of the gas pump picture was an indicator of fuel door side, but that was bull. 3 of my cars were wrong. However, yesterday I noticed my Trailblazer had an arrow under the pic that pointed left, and today the HHR showed correctly pointing right.

This is actually pretty common isn't it?

I know I use that arrow whenever I am in a rental car so I don't have to look like an idiot and get out to check.

At least we don't have to look like the fools in that Honda commercial (or whatever make it is) that says they get such good gas mileage that they forget what side their door is on.

This is almost universal now, but I didn't even think to look the first time, so I ended up doing the reversing around the pump trick after pulling up at the wrong side on the first couple of fill-ups, just like on the Hyundai ad. Pleasingly few fill-ups since.
