The same tranny in the GTP works well up to 320 HP and about 330 FT LBs,

The GTP guys start breaking parts after this level. THis is part of the reason GM limits the Upgrade just under 300 HP and 315 FT Lbs. These are the safe stock limits.

Not they pull a lot of power our at the shift points. You can gain a lot of time up with the power back but in the GTP's it also kills a lot of trannys.

This is where the new 2.0 Turbo cars will shine as they have the newer and stronger 6 speeds and they will get more power all the time.

I have seen a lot of diffs break in the Pontiac racers.

6 speeds would have been nice in our cars, for sure. 290 hp for a 2.0L, 131 cubic inch 4 cylinder, with the stage 1 to me is plenty. The little "blown" engine that could is already working hard when it comes from the factory.
