Looking to buy 08 SS

Like the title states I'm looking into buying a 08 HHR SS with 30 some thousand miles. Is there anything I should be watching out for on these? I am new to them so I have no idea. Thanks in advance.

Are you gonna drive down to Ohio so I can check out the car?

I would make sure that the po has service records showing regular maintenance oil changes etc. I would suggest getting one with lsd (not sure if this was available for 08) and the bigger brakes. If you are buying from a dealer you should probably be OK if the car is certified and you may still have some warranty left. I love my HHR SS but I do beat on it so be patient and wait for a good deal. Good Luck!:

My advice

long test drives. Any sign of sputtering or lack of turbo and walk away. If they are solid they are a great car, but there are some lemons out there.

LSD was available for 08, mine has it. The Brembo's weren't though until 09. I'd suggest the standard over the automatic. The extra horsepower is worth it!.

With the GM tune the Auto is just as fast.

We have about 45K on ours with very little problems. After 3 years it rattles a little bit from stuff loosening over time, and there have been a few lemons. I think the best advice is keep it for the weekend and drive the crap out of it. Its very nimble and quick for having 5 doors.

Look for the care the car has had. Oil changes, etc. That will give a good indication of use. Unlike the Cobalts, the HHR crowd tends to be a little older, so the chance of getting an abused car is lower.

Lastly, get the car looked over by an independant shop, preferably in another town. Ponie up the 3 bills for this even if you don't buy the car. PIECE OF MIND IS BETTER THAN PIECES IN THE DRIVEWAY!

Good Luck! Hope you get an SS!

Preferable Options

I am new to the HHR's and just bought a 2008 SS with 7500 miles, garage kept. What is the LSD and are the Brembo's a big difference? Are they just larger rotors or what is the difference? Also are there any comments on the use of premium fuel for the SS?

Sure why not. And i have the LSD and all the service records. I only went to dealers for oil changes for the simple reason that selling the car will be easier. Oh and you get the stage kit.

Like i have my days that i really wanna sell it and others that i just want to pay it off and drive it into the ground haha

If you bought an SS and are not using premium then do yourself a favor and trade it in for a base model. Its a turbo car which needs premium fuel. I dont mean to be a jerk at all though. Please do your car this little favor and run premium and it will love you.
