When I bought my SS there were a few Stick shift cars in the DC Area.........
I researched cars all the way to South Carolina to find mine, it appears the Automatics have a 3to1 advantage over stick cars on lots......There were quite a few SS's in the South

 

Over 5K on my SS. I'm between 27 to 29+ but lately I'm noticing a 1-2 mpg drop and I suspect that ethenol is the cause as I hear that Florida is now moving towards exclusive use of it. Farmers have good lobbyists me thinks.

 

Auto Ss Here , Best Mpg Avg Was 35.1 & That Was Babying It . I Found Like A Sweet Spot & Set The Cruise. It Was 62-63 Mph. & The Boost Gauge Had A Reading Of -10 (vacuum) If I Get On It, While On The Freeway/hwy I Can Still Get A Healthy Average Of 26-28mpg.

Hey Salty. Don't let the leadfoots get you down. If you drive it for mileage, you can get 32-36 on the highway, in the city 27-30. Pick the stick for performance PERIOD. BTW I'm not suggesting that you can drive it like you stole it and get this mileage, but for boring commutes, extended highway farmland, stop n go, going to work....what's the hurry.
If your drivin for fun, you could probably gt the mileage down in the high teens. I really need to get a compressed-time youtube video up of one of my commutes just to get my point across.

 

Salty if you have a Z06 and an SRT8 just shop around for whatever SS is the cheapest you really dont need any more performance vehicles LOL or you could give me that Vette I could use something to replace my civic.

 

FWIW, 2,200miles on my auto SS,mostly highway(55-70mph)and i'm at 28.2mpg. average. That is with mostly premium fuel with a few tanks of 87 or mid grade thrown in there to see how it runs (ok IMO)
At around 55-60mph i can find the "sweet spot" and hold 35-6 MPG instant. At 70-75mph it goes a lil lower, usually 30-32 mpg.

Still , a LOT better (and more fun to drive ) than my '03 Silverado when payin fer gas @ week's end

 

Right on 08BlackHHRSS (the best color i might add), don't worry about 87 octane for mileage, over 1000 miles, I could not determine any difference in mileage, performace though, ask someone that gets mileage in the low 20's. I did about a 1000 mile test with 87, my first 3000 miles were with 93 or 94.

Trust me, 87 doesn't mean squat when it comes to mileage.

 

All city to work and back little highway to a buddies house. 23 MPG with some spirited driving. 5 speed manual.

 

2400 miles so far.....a bit above the speed limit when on the hwy.....

27.1 mpg combined.

very happy with the gas mileage, have an Auto, did some unscientific test recently drive almost 100 miles per day during the week. usually around 28.8 to 29 mpg, does drop lower when I put my foot in it...
I have had it as high as 34.6 mpg @ speeds between 65 & 80 mph, and when you factor in taking a trip on the highway at a constant speed with little deviation, if any, you can obtain really good gas mileage as a final result. as you know other members have certain techniques that they use to get every last mpg out of their tank. and I applaud them for that, as it just gives us more ideas on mileage if that is what we want to accomplish. overall, I think you would be very happy with the SS, no matter what trans you get. and with the tunes that are available now and in the future, it just will make it more of a blast to drive...
