The car in the lot didn't have the roof rails but since I wanted them they ordered them (the black ones for the SS) and installed them 2 weeks later for no charge! That told me that I had made a good choice of dealership! The oldest in the country right here in Maspeth, Queens, NYC!

Mine has them, from the factory. This is the first car I've ever had with them and I love them.

What I mean about "neccesity" is that on most SUV"s Vans etc. you do not have the choice of ordering without the roof rack. Those that do offer the choice only do it on the base models. Some offer rails and cross carriers separate.
If you need one on an HHR you have that choice.
That is the way I prefer to order all of my vehicles.....With "My Choices" and not a bunch of packaged items that I do not want or need.
Many foriegn vehicles do not offer many choices other than a few packages that force you to take it or leave it along with Dealer install items.

Nice job of getting all that stuff in.
Your a candidate for a New SS Suburban.......
Cheers...

I once had an old Suburban and I can honestly tell you that I cannot ever go that route again. A trip from LA to NYC pulling a small trailer with all our belongings that should have taken 7 days took 7 weeks! Someday it may make a great and funny family movie but while we were actually "in" the movie it wasn't so much fun!

Someone On Here Once Said That The Roof Rails Actually Strengthen The Roof, Like Reinforcing It.

In 2006 we installed the roof rails after delivery from GM. They were shipped seperately. Since 2007 they are installed at the factory. We do install them if someone purchases an install kit.

I guess that is possible, but I have never heard that and really don't see how they could reinforce the roof.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all of the great replies! I knew you guys could help me out.

I honestly thought it would be a factory install but there is so much conflicting information out there it was hard to decipher. Plus with the SS being a bit different than the other models made it even more confusing.

Again, thanks you guys!

Heather

Was that on ALL 2006's? My HHR was still on the transport when I first saw it (had a call from my dealer contact). The roof rails were on the car but no running boards....which I understood as dealer installed.
