No Lift Shift Questions

The the No Lift Shift (NLS) available all the time in all modes or does that SS have to be in the Competitive Mode for it to work.

And what really is NLS? Dont all cars with a redline limiter have a NLS? Because of the few times I have done NLS, the rpms do jump up to the redline. They are not sticking at the rpms at the point of the shift, which is what I originally expected to happen.

I have typically done my shifts between 5500 and 6000 rpms and during that split second the clutch is in, the rpms jump up.

I think the NLS just allows driver to shift while WOT, nothing special. most one cars will not let you into gear when attempting a NLS. It doesn't seem to hold rpms at a constant # but it does help keep some of the boost while shifting which is the only real advantage.

Yes you need to be in competition mode, launch control will show on the display. It should hold around 4000 between shifts.

Incorrect(sorry)
Launch mode is only active when the car is not moving and will limit the rpms to around 4000-4200 for the "holeshot" or takeoff.
NLS is a seperate feature to allow you to shift without releasing the accelerator. It does NOT limit the rpms to 4000 as you stated.

Oh, my mistake then. I thought NLS was only active when launch control is on. Is it always active then?

NLS works in any mode...

'09 owners manual page 2-31:
"allows the the engine to maintain boost pressure during shifts, while also keeping engine from over-revving"

ya gotta shift quick though!

No-Lift Upshift (SS Models)
If the vehicle has the 2.0L turbo engine and manual
transmission, it has the capability of No-Lift Upshifts.
This feature maximizes vehicle acceleration by allowing
you to shift the transmission to a higher gear without
taking your foot off the accelerator. No-Lift Upshifting is
enabled in all Electronic Stability Control modes.
See Electronic Stability Control (ESC) on page 5-6 for
more information. Use this feature only when the engine
has reached normal operating temperature. Correct
shifting allows the engine to maintain boost pressure
during shifts, while also keeping the engine from
over-revving.
To utilize this feature:
1. Accelerate the vehicle by fully depressing the
accelerator pedal.
2. Just prior to reaching the maximum engine speed,
quickly complete the upshift utilizing the clutch while
keeping the accelerator pedal fully applied. A
quicker shift maneuver gives the best performance.
If the engine is operated at the maximum engine
speed for greater than one second, the engine exits
the No-Lift Upshift mode and resumes normal
engine overspeed protection.

(not sure about the last sentence, and I don't think I want to find out )

The last part of that sentence I would assume means that the power cut comes into play. If you ever hit the redline and felt all power cut out while accelerating, that's it.

So I assume what it means is during NLS you need to do it quick in order to avoid the power cut. But seriously, who would do a leisurely NLS??
