In my area we got two whole storms last winter, and they were anywhere from 2-4" of snow. Now that I have the SS, we're sure to get several blizzards. Ugh.

i wish winter tires were a law in the US, i seen many preventable accidents, getting by is not safety, winter tires are softer in cold besides the obvious tread difference, all 4 wheels should have them on front drivers, that said did you try the internet, i got my michelins in two days from the tire rack, they rock, great in snow and rain and pretty good in dry too, they dont melt away like blizzaks which are slightly better traction wise but wear stinks, also smaller aka narrow tires work best

Hey now--some of us have never heard of the concept of needing two sets of tires.
Can't fathom what it's like driving in snow...rain is weird enough.

@...who makes up for not having more then one set of tires with having many pairs of shoes

how would you determine who has to have them by law and not? I live in north central Indiana. Everyone said the winters were mild here and then last year (my first winter here) they said it was out of the normal and we got a lot of snow. So i'm wondering what this winter will be like. normal with a little like they said, or like last year. If it's normal i woudln't need them.

Snow tires can help a good amount but they don't give someone the knowledge they need for driving on snow. Plus for a lot of people, it gives them a false sense of security. Kind of like all the guys i saw blow past me doing 55 on the expressway in a blizzard when everyone else was doing 30. Then later on i saw most of them in the ditch. So I think the reqiored part would just cause people to have them by law and then get stupid with them, not everyone, but a lot of people.

You want to stop more accidents get people just to have tread on their tires.

Most of the cars that are off the road are people with little tread of any kind winter or all season. and most are under pressure too.

Also in winter states they should teach some of these people just how to drive. I have too often had some idiot slow down coming to a hill and then try to give the car gas vs just keep smooth and making no sudden moves to get up the hill.

I think they should require car control driving school as part of getting a drivers permit.

Winter tires are a great help but most an get by with out them as very few have conditions bad enough to warrant them in most area.

Tonight I saw the oppisite of too fast. In a steady snow on just a wet road a mini van with 4 ways on doing no more than 35 MPH on the interstate. The rest of us including the state trooper were doing 60-65 MPH. I thought the trooper would stop him but did not.

To be honest I loved my last truck in the snow. LSD, no electronic aides and 2WD. It was let her rip. Steering with the gas pedal is a blast. That thing would go through anything with All Season Wrangler GSA tires.

I normally take the back unplowed roads as they are easier to get though on than the roads with people who just can't drive.

It also would help if they put down the cell phone too.

I can see apartment managers being real excited about people storing their winter tires in their living rooms when not in use.
