winter tires

Hey you all,I'm knew to the HHR world.(and to all you).Hope all is well,as you can see,I am "grumpy",just ask "the war department"my wife.
Anyway,I have seen a lot of discussion about tire change-over for winter.
Since this is my first winter with this thing,I gotta do somethin' before I end up in a tree.
I want to put Blizzaks on it.I priced tires/rims for the car(18 inch),and afer just about having the big one with the price,,,can I go with the 16 inch size for the Lt,and go that route without screwing something up?
How about vehicle height,,,will it drop it too far?And one last query,do I hafta go with the tire pressure sensors? Hey thanks So much from a new guy to all this.

Not sure about the TPMS, since that pre-dates my 06, but it would be safe to drop the rim size down to 16s. No worries about the drop, and should only be concerned about speedo calibration.

if you dont install tpms the yellow light will stay on, you can cover it with electrical tape lol.

you can buy a cheap set of 4 on ebay. for around 60 bucks i heard.

the stock 16" tires i put on my SS are 215/55/16 you could probably go 225/50 maybe?

I went to 16" from 18" and the trick is to keep the same diameter so it has no effect on your roll out for the speedo and ride hight. The wheel diameter has nothing to do with ride hight it is the tire size. I found a set of Goodyear triple treads that were only two revolutions per mile off of my factory ss whees so little changed.

As for TPM's get a new set and do it right. $60 is not much and they are easy to reset.

Thanks for all the info.I checked out Tirerack, and I can get an entire set of tires/rims for around 700-.
They have the sensors for the tire pressure for 154 a set,,
I haven't had to put Winter(snow) tires on a vehicle since,,,,well a long time.Fortunately,I found you guys before the lil'blue "dink" got traded in.One last question though, with changing the rims size, will I have any problems with it all fitting around the disk brakes. Hey thanks again,Grumpy
