Oh S#!T straps
Actually, I thought of that after I posted. you would need to exercise some real caution installing something. You certainly don't want to drill into the airbag system, and you wouldn't want something blocking an airbag and becoming a deadly projectile. My wife complains about the lack of some type of grab bar. My driving doesn't bother me, although I did race around in fire trucks for 28 years. I'm probably used to s*%tty driving.

So, before drilling or making any mods like that plan, plan, plan ahead. It would also be a good idea to review the factory service books and also take the area apart to understand what you may be doing before any mods are done.
I know you all probably thought of this, but it is worth mentioning anyway that you need to think about airbag (side and front) locations and deployment in regard to where you mount these. At least the first place i thought of would have been "bad" in regard to bag deployment

Just a thought:
Won't your passenger rip the handle out of the dash or headliner when pulling themselves into the car?
Don't you need to bolt or weld braces behind the intended location in order to mount a handle securely, like you would when installing a safety/assist bar in a bathtub?
