Performance Passenger Seat (Mod)

I have the passenger seat removed, and the cover and foam removed from that. All pretty easy, and only two of those obnoxious ring staples to remove. I'll post photos Saturday on the two covers and foam side by side (standard vs performance). May have to do some swapping and "stitching" to get the side skirts right. Expensive experiment if it does not work. Disclaimer: This is not a GM authorized or condoned modification, and anyone doing this takes personal responsibility for the modification, that said, airbag sensor, etc should still work fine in my opinion.

I was at the dealership today and went to parts deptment to see if they had part numbers for the performace seats and covers nothing yer. Talked to a salesman he told me the performace seat was made by Recaro and that Recaro is on the seat.(Is Recaro on the seat?)
I was told earlier this year by another salesman when I asked about the performace seat that when they test drove the SS at the trake that both seats were Recaros.

They are NOT recaro's. They are manufactured by Lear.

The performance seat has a "gm performance division" tag on it. Not Recaros, although I read somewhere that the Cobalt performance package includes Recaros. Part numbers are certainly available, maybe it helps if you have a VIN from a SS to cross-reference. Seems that some of the test vehicles had the performance seat in both locations.

I guess the salesman is the typical "slug" that most find in dealers.

I agree with you, blazer.

Did the seat have armrests? If not, can you tell how easy it would be to add them, or is it even possible? I really miss not having an armrest in my manual.

Having been driving an LT with armrests, I can say I think I would be happy with just one armrest: on the passenger seat. Thats a more comfortable fit for myself, especially since I'll be shifting. So If this mod works out, I think I will do it and try an armrest on that pass seat.

In the future go to Crate Engine Depot for your parts(tom@crateenginedepot.com), ask for Tom, he will take unbelievable care of you and give you a great price to boot!
