Long story short just had the stockers turned ($10 each) and couldn't be happier. I put pads on maybe 5k ago (NAPA Adaptive One dual surface pads).....great pads by the way for the $$$. It's a hybrid ceramic and awesome in my mind for the money. Much better braking than stock without all the dust.

Anyways, if I had bought new rotors I would have done the pads too but decided to keep the pads that look brand spankin' new still and just do a resurface. Pads completely bedded in about 20 miles of driving and I couldn't be happier with my $20 fix Got maybe 200 miles on it now and feels like a new car. The rotor warpage was apparently worse than I thought and I had gradually gotten used to it because she's amazingly smooth now.

NAPA sells a slightly beefier rotor for the HHR that is a "stock" replacement. I forget the part number, but from my experience the steering has a heavier feel now and no road tracking under braking anymore. my rotors were trashed. I went with "lifetime" ceramics and they chewed through my rotors. the backs are still good, and will likely last the lifetime of the car.
