Sorry but I can't stand it when folks ask questions have a long lengthy thread and then never follow up with the solution. so here it is.
Symtom: 5 speed manual shifter very sluggish to move side to side, goes into gear (fore/aft) easily. As temp decreases below freezing stiffness only worsens to the point of stuck at 0degs.
Fix: Replaced the cable assembly and problem solved. Looking at the assembly the cable seal on the trans side is a little to be desired so I squired some additional lube down the tube. I also put some grease around the area to help shed the water as the cable points up possibly allowing water or condensation to settle at the seal point. I don't believe design is completely to blame. As 2 years ago the motor had to be replaced then within a week the clutch since the Dealer Boogered it up (imagine, See my other post on missfire and 11 time dealer attempts.) So between that area being messed with twice it mostlikely was bent then got some amount of corrision for its demise.
Problem: Dealers/GM is not stocking or making the assembly. I purchased the last 1 of 2 in the country.

He will probably get more of a response to his other posting on the same subject, as it has a little more info than what he is mentioning here.
Dan - tis much better to only post once on a subject/question, as posting the same thing in multiple spots just causes confusion and wasted time.
