i live in houston texas. i never had this problem before in any other car i had here. but this is the first "new" car i bought since 98. all my others were used, perhaps they were already broken in... so far to remedy the charge i just grab part of the metal on the door before i get out, i just forget sometimes..lol.
Soon your humidity will be at it's typical 95% and you won't have to worry about the build up of static electricity until next winter.

You could try one of those grounding straps that Old Ray is pointed out or you could try grabbing the top of the open door or placing your hand on the roof before you try to slide out of the seat. That should transfer any current to the car instead of storing it inside the body.

Yep, thats the answer, plus if you make it a habit to hold on to the door frame AS YOU ARE GETTING out, it will bleed off the static without any feeling it. I've not found it with the Perf seat I have, and I know its different in the area on the front, maybe thats a plus for it. since some don't like it for other reasons.

the only thing I might add is be real careful when filling up at the station.

some ppl (almost all of them women, BTW) have met with an untimely demise by getting in their car (let's say it's cold out) while filling up and then, when they get out of the car to shut off the pump they touch something, a spark flies and boom.

doubt this would happen to you but at least be aware of it. you might hop in your car if you forget something while filling up and the same thing could happen.

I read the same thing. My wife can make the hair on the back of my neck stand up just by giving me the "LOOK", just like static electricity. So I think women have this static build up already in them naturally.

okay, so now that we solved the car static, any suggestion as to how I can stop getting shocked as I push the shopping cart around Walmart every few seconds? That really drives me crazy!

dont shop wally world

and the women jokes

one more suggestion... try a dryer sheet or get some of the static remover spray and rub/spray it on the seat and see if that helps.

A temporary clip-on static strap for your shopping cart?

I have the same problem. Does not happen every time. I'll try to pay more attention to what shoes I am wearing.
