I was thinking the same thing...

But I do like the look of the lower right corner a lot...so much so that I decided to get the Monte Carlo red SS emblem to put on mine. Just got it off e-bay for about $15.50 shipped.
My other exterior SS emblems are all blacked out, but I think the red against the black mesh grille will look sharp...and will tie in nicely with the victory red:

Actually, I fabbed my own plate that the emblem attaches to via 3M tape. The plate has 2 studs on back with nuts for securing it down. I can change locations if I want.
I got the emblem from a local Chevy dealer. Was $14 and change. The part number crosses over to other Chev. models. Plus it has the 3M tape backing.
I can take some pics of it off the car if anyone is interested. Just ask.
I think this is the part #--- GM 10336980

If you could take pics that would be great I was thinking of a way to fab up something with studs to bolt it on.
thanks in advance.
For some reason I thought you used the back SS emblem But it sounds like you used the side ss emblem part #?
Pictures would be great and thanks for the part # I thought I would be paying $25.00plus

I'll get some pictures in the morning. It's raining here so I'm not wading out to my shop.
The backing plate is actually made of heavy gauge plastic(black). There is a very slight curvature to the grill. To mount flush, the backing needed to give just a tad so I opted for the plastic.
No it's the back emblem. The side emblem was too big.
