Don't get me wrong I am not unhappy with the car........perfectly willing to wait for GM, unlike some others here......

That's fine in theory, but it doesn't seem to address any of the critical factors that affect the problem in the real world. 15 seconds sure isn't enough to get my engine generating much vacuum. Don't assume you know how someone else's vehicle is going to behave, since they all behave quite differently, presumably depending on the rate of the leak, as well as the inclines typically driven when starting out. I've put about 8,000 miles on my vehicle, and I've only ever experienced the problem one time. But that one time it was a problem could have easily been fatal. I was stomping that pedal for dear life, and my braking distance was unexpectedly doubled. I have owned a number of vehicles which did not have assisted braking, and the trying to push a dead assist system is nothing like using brakes that were designed to stop a vehicle without assist. Don't assume everyone who is complaining about the problem is just being silly. Perhaps if your vehicle did the same thing you might feel the same way.
I have posted in a number of these threads, but I will say it again. The parts are available if you complain enough, as I have. I should have my car back either this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Once I get the work order and part numbers, I will be back to let you all know what to reference with your service department to get the vacuum pump/canister installed to fix your problem permanently.

I already have and a case file was opened, don't have the number handy but the more the merrier. Went to arbitration hearing about the issue; however, the rules do not allow me to disclose the results. Best to check with your own state's lemon laws and check your owner's manual for the proper way to get the BBB involved. Others placing posts here who don't have problem just don't seem to realize or care what a small group of us are going through. My brakes have been re-calibrated; however, they are only a token better at start-up. Problem for me (and others) is that the "warm-up period" varies and is not always possible or sometimes you just forget.

I got the car back a couple days ago with the vacuum pump and canister installed. I dont have time now, but I will post up the part numbers tomorrow and you can get back with your service manager and ask him about that.

So I get a call today to pick up my HHR for the startup brake issue.
It has been there over a week. I have other means of transportation
and the weather is not good, so I did not mind the wait.
I am being told that my brake problem was due to my camshaft
and that it ws replaced this week. the car has only 4400 miles on it.
What one has to do with another, is beyond me, but we will
see this weekend, once I pick it up on Saturday.
I am not happy at all to have my engine torn apart at such a low mileage.
They said nothing about a vacuum pump.
This is visit #2 for the brakes. They have one more.
Hopefully I wil not need it.
While I love my SS, and would not trade it for anything, I do miss my ford experiences where I rarely met any of the dealership service people - since none of them ever needed any beyond the occasional recall for silly stuff.

I am totally satisfied. I went out to lunch today, 12 degrees outside, and about 2lbs on the vac side, and the brakes were perfect. I am working now, so I dont have my work order with me, but I will post up all the part numbers associated with the kit tomorrow.

No we know what you mean your coping like most. It is not a perfect situation but manageable till the parts are ready.
