SS is on my list of new cars
Been a GM car driver all my life and every one of them was reliable. Just about any well made car can be reliable if taken care of properly. Every one of my cars was 10+ years old all but one was sold/traded in with 150+ thousand miles still in good running condition. My first car was hit by bad driver and was put to rest before her time.
While I don't have any dogs, I did find a post for you from someone with Great Danes in their HHR. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...ght=great+dane
I've owned a lot of cars (over 30) and I've got to say the SS is at the top of my list of favorites. I like the looks, it handles great, decent power, comfortable ride and I'm getting a little better than 27 MPG. Most of my driving is on secondary roads, very little highway driving. I'm only at 2300 miles right now, so I can't speak to long term reliability, but initial quality is great.
The 2.0 is a well engineered engine IMHO and the 5spd trans has been around for awhile. From first impressions, I believe that with proper care and maintenance the drive train will last well into the 100's of thousands of miles.

Not snow, but I have been in mix of shale and snotty adobe mud going uphill, and it pulled better than my Silverado in 2wd mode with mud/snow tires ( no camparo to 4wd obviously). I was amazed (and yes it needed a bath after).
