4519 SS for the 2008 model year. Probably a tad over 8k total SS production for 2008, 2009 and 2010.

2562 for 09, 2346 for standard SS, 216 were panels, that brings us to 7081 and not knowing 2010 numbers QC should be right on

Sorry that in collector terms at this point is not rare. You can find one if you want one.

Two things effect rare in collector terms. One is low production and by low I mean 1200 or less. Second that effects rare is demand. There are many cars that there may only be 5 of them but if there are only 3 people wanting them there is really no demand.

Rare also get confused with value too. There again supply and demand effects this. No supply and large demand like a Shelby it effects the price. As for like say a 84 Fiero Pace car there was 1251 were built and they still trade for around $10-12K for a low milage model.

I would say the HHR SS will retain its value better than most average cars and will be the HHR to have in the future but that is not to say you will retire on it.

If there really is a rare HHR it will be a Panel and half panel SS. These are really low production numbers and they will have enough demand to comand a higher than normal price.

My advice is drive it and enjoy it and don't mget any crazy value ideas. Everyone wants the next rare Hemi or COPO Chevy but the key is most cars today are not going to see that value. Cars like this will be something like the 2011 ZR1 or Z06 with some of the rare options. But for the most even the Camaro and Mustang leavel little to be called rare.

One of the best collector values now is the Turbo V6 TA Pace Car. It was low production and has performance and appeal to become a rare collector but you can still get a good buy.

Don't laugh there are some that really start thinking that way.

I remember when one of the magazines said the Fiero would become a $100K car by 2000. I had one guy I met tell me he took his kids collage money and bought two 88 GT's to sit on. I sure hope his kids like Jr Collage as they may have paid for their books.

He got mad around 1990 when I told him it's not going to happen.

Cars are like the lottery the odds are long and bad on being a winner to have that one special one that will be of great value.

Yep, we have a couple here. One even went as far as changing the nose and rear bumper but not the rockers, wheels and chome rack and door handles.

I hammered it past him once just to remind him it was not a real SS.

i agree with hyperv6 definition of rare, but i think chevyguy was referring to how many hhr ss's you see driving around compared to camaros,mustangs,vettes,etc...in that case, they are rare. with a 20mile radius of my house i know the two that are in my garage,an orange one,red one,and another black one.
