They all seem to have the problem. The Auto have it and the manual SS seem to show it less but I have seen complaints from them too.

It think that manuals may build vacume faster so they notice it less.

Also driving habits and people ability to deal with it are all on different levels. The human factor.

Because of this not being some isolated deal I am sure the reports of GM working on this are true and we will in time hear about a TSB the question is just when.

Things like this are not that easy to fix on a corperate level. It took a year and half to fix the bouncing headlights on my 04 GTP. One little metal bracket took that long to show up and I had to give the dealer the TSB number because he had no idea?

I think it is safe to say I believe all 08 and 09 SS have this issue to some degree depending on tranny and driver. Keep in mind the Solstice and Sky have also showed this issue. I have not heard of a Cobalt SS having it yet.

I have been watching patterns on web sites and this is what I have seen so far.

There is the potential for all HHR SS' to have this issue. But the parts are now available from GM to fix the issue. My car is in the shop today getting a vacuum pump and canister installed. I will report back in a few days to let you know how well it works.

I was told a week ago the parts are only available through GM Technical Assistance Center on a case by case basis. They (TAC) must authorize the installation after verification of the condition. In other words you can't order the parts from your local dealer and your dealer can't order them from GM. The parts are shipped by TAC to the Service Department for installation and I am sure they are currently in limited supply.

We installed one of the kits last week. Pretty straightforward installation of the pump & harness plus the hoses. It cures the problem.

There was a problem with obtaining the pump through SPO (superceded part #) but the bracket had to come only from TAC.

I wonder what the the permutation of this fix (which undoubtedly includes a flash to provide controls for the pump) and the GM Stage kit. I recall there being pump/no pump variants of the CARB certs... at least for the Sol/Sky.

Good to know. Funny as far as I know, we have still not had a customer come in and complain about this condition, and we are not a small dealership.

This is why it is important to tell your dealer you have a problem and get it documented.

This may lead to a recall or a TSB in due time. It sounds as if they are taking care of the people complaining the most first if parts are limited.

Thanks for the heads up.

Probably takes about 70HP away from the vehicle.

Texans let the car idle an extra 20 seconds while they get their radio station tuned in, check their hair in the rear view mirror, chat with their buddy standing at the car window, etc.
