Steering position sensor

I have my girl in the shop. The place said the steering position sensor is my issue. They said they cannot get ahold of a replacement. I thought I found it fairly easily. I was told I am wrong.

They said I need a steering position sensor with break control?

Mine is a 2008 SS with the 2.0 Turbo

Anyone have this issue? I was told its built into the steering colum not outside it as it is with other HHR's.

Any advice would be great and if you know the correct part and can point me to a place to get it please let me know.

Thanks in advance

The steering position sensor is doing its job telling the computer the steering is off centre. A proper alignment shop should know what to do.

I am just looking for the part ot part number. Its in the shop and they said they cant find the part. I just want to find the right part so I can get my car back

From the investigation I ran, it is SS specific, it is part of the steering column, the part is obsolete , there is no part number.
you will have to find a used one

What makes them think the steering angle sensor is a problem? What is the issue?
As far as I know it is integral to the column.

BadLILSS Nov 4, 2024 08:51 AM

yes, which is why we are having a hard time finding it

Yes its part of the column. They had done my front end and when I got it back the traction light was on. I took it back and they said it wouldnt reset and could not be driven with no power steering

Oldblue Nov 4, 2024 08:53 AM

Hmm, they did a front end alignment?

So, what code caused the traction light, there should be a Cxxxx code? Any code related to the angle/torque sensor should make a "SERVICE POWER STEERING" message on the DI(C
My guess would be that somebody broke or disconnected a wheel speed sensor while doing the alignment.
I don't know how doing an alignment could damage the steering angle sensor, as long as the steering wheel is set straight (nobody reset the wheel to make it look straight.). There are marks that line up on the wheel and the shaft.
The sensor does not need to be reset after an alignment.

No power steering ? Maybe you could start at the beginning and explain this again. It’s very confusing as posted now.

I took my SS in to get the clutch and breaks done

Only the rear breaks needed replacing

They said however that the pretty sure they said sway bar and boots needed to be replaced. Ana alignment basically from what I understand They could do it instead of the breaks.

I got the car back and the starter was grinding and the traction light was on and would not turn off.

I took it back into the shop.

They tried to re-set the code but it wouldnt re-set. Now there was no power steering.

He said that the steering position censor needed to be replaced but it was no longer made so would have to find a used one.

I have been waiting for him to find one and instal it so I can get my car back. Its been a couple weeks now.

Is there something I should be asking him?

Is there any other info I have not included that anyone might need to understand where and why I am stuck?

If this was a 70's car I could fix about anything.

Cars since the 2000's I am lost.
