Strange Scenario........Turbo Cut-Out

Okay real quick description of what happened. This was Saturday morning and its 21F. I have Auto so remote starter is crucial. ANyways car warmed up ready to go hit the road drive 20 miles south mostly interstate. Everything is workin fine, pull into hospital run in pick something up and run out, car stayed on the whole 2 minutes I was gone. So now back on the road emergency delivery about 45mi north and I've got to haul ass. So down the on ramp and speed up to 85mph. No problems, then all of the sudden the SS feels like it just had it's balls ripped off. Definitely a feeling of loss of power, now I'm struggling to stay at 80mph. So I hit the gas to see if I have anything, zero, zip, nada, Turbo is non-responsive. Don't have time to pull over I have to get where I'm going and fast. Long story short, once I get to where I need to be and make the drop-off I pull over and check under the hood to see if I had sprung a leak or blown something. Car still on everything seemed fine under the hood. Back on the road and as soon as I pulled out of that gas station I could feel that the SS had the balls back. Hit the expressway and everything was fine. Drove some more throughout the day and never had any problems. Anyone have any comments on what might have happened here?

I had it happen quite a few times.Usually after it happened the car would run like an anemic four until next restart.Eventually it would do all the time except in first gear.(5-speed) Until finally it just ran on three,I had number two piston melt down on the side below the rings.Prior to,my boost was running the max.

The engine was rebuilt over the holidays and runs great now.

Hmmm... That is weird! And you had no SES light come on at all? What was happening with your gages (boost, coolant temp., etc) when this was happening? It really seems odd to think that the car was struggling to stay at 80mph without it throwing any codes...

You said that "remote start was crucial", do you mean that you think this may have something to do with it? Or where you infering that the car was warmed up fine?

Referring to warming up the car with the remote start. No codes were thrown......but I did notice that my coolant temp was rising as the engine was struggling to keep the SS @ 80mph. I'll be taking it in to the dealer sometime this week to get the Stage 1 installed so we'll see if they can figure anything out. After it happened and on my trip back my boost was fully functional running 15-16psi max.

Hmmm sounds like a fuel problem.

Maybe some mexican tech threw his latex gloves in the fuel tank at the end of his shift. Then the next shift sealed the tank and installed it. Funny things happen on the way to final assembly.

This is the first hiccup I've had with the SS and I've got 20,000mi on it. Maybe some bad fuel, but I always fill it with premium @ Sunoco.

Could it have been water in the gas? What temp was it outside?

It was 21F that morn. The car ran fine for the first 20 miles then it cutout the next 40miles. Then it was like it never happened and everything went back to norm and still haven't had an issue since......very strange
