Tech Support For Questions

Is their a place I can post technical questions to the Chev engineering function?

For instance, the HHR's are rated a 1000lb towing. I would like to tow a small folding tent trailer at 1600lb. What is the weak link and can it be remedied? The local dealer is clueless.

I cannot answer for Chevrolet, but I do know that even though you may have the power to tow, there are other factors such as the amount of tire contacting the road,(tire size), braking capacity, wheelbase (effects leverage a trailer applies), not to mention engine and transmission cooling. For example, I had a large V6 S-10 pickup, short bed, standard cab, plenty of power, but in stopping the boat I towed(which was #1000 lbs under what the truck was rated for), it pushed me horribly, and in cross winds the trailer wanted to pull the truck sideways. Not enough tire contact patch, too short of a wheel base, and just plain not enough azz to to do the job safely.
