I got 2 snowflakes on my way home from OKC, after driving fine all the way from San Diego to Dallas, to OKC, to NW OK, then on the 2nd leg of my trip home, IN CA!, I got 2 big ass rocks from a semi. I couldn't seem to get away from him, and I can't imagine what the Prius that ended up behind it for a stretch looked like by the time he got away!

Must be epidemic..yesterday I got nailed just above the wiper...salt trucks were out and some of the so called salt was more like gravel..had a SUV kick it up. Ugly sound..now both my HHR;s are rocked..the other one was repaired..guess this one will too..when it gets warm enough.

Not sure if there are different grades of Glass But I already have large 2 chips and many other dings. I feel like the glass of the HHR is softer than other cars I have own. The New England winters are tough but the Windshield is damaging alot faster from smaller salt/stones. I wish spring would get here fast I'd like to still have a new looking car when nice weather returns .

Interesting you mention that, because the sound of the rock hitting the windshield was not as loud and as startling as some I've had in the past with other vehicles. I was not really expecting too much damamge based on the sound of the hit, but it sure did a lot of damage. Like you said, I think this was just a stone associated with salting the roads because there were no trucks in the vicinity and no other vehicles close to me at the time.

So far my HHR's have avoided windshield damage, but in the past I've had terrible luck with windshields. This includes having an electrical transformer explode as I drove under it with my old Accord. The molten transformer parts melted portions of the windshield and windows. All had to be replaced.

This is exactly what I was expecting too. The size of whatever hit was not equal to the amount of damage on this car.

Just happened to me this morning on the way to work. Doesn't look too bad, just an "L" shaped chip/crack, about 1/2 inch wide. I'm looking into getting it repaired, so it does not spread.
