Well 300 miles and I tested the Airbag
as an EMT one you walk away from is a good one I always worry about those that we help because the adrenilin may not let you reconize some injuries. glad you bag deployed tomany times in accidents they dont and we have to treat more serious injuries stay safe
I would have been more concerned if the belt had left a mark on me but by the time the back went of I just has a clancing blow on the nose that set off the bag.
It was one of those deals that the bag did more damage than the crash would have.
Oh I know know what it feels like in the face area. It is like getting hit by a hard thown dodge ball.

The ditch was not good for the HHR ground clearance but just to the left it was much worse. and deep enough to have flipped it over. I never noticed the ole till now.
Also The skid in the rocks was so close to the stop sign that the mirror has to have missed by only an inch.
I like to think it was my driving that missed the sign but Stabili Track had to kick in. I never felt the anti locks but I am sure they came on as I was too busy steering and hoping to not run out of luck.
Note the rear bumper is so far down the tail pipe is buried in the dirt and the lower ground fx is under the dirt.
Oh the guy on the cell phone was the problem. My wife stopped by and wondered with his eratic driving if he was on his cell phone. I am sure he will never tell.
As you will note the damage is not great but is not as bad as it could have been. When I saw the sheet metal all in one piece, the doors opened well and no anti freeze it makes me know the a front and rear facia will take care of 90% of it. This time I will have them leave the front plate braket off. If I know the intercooler is unharmed we will have it made.
I am made about my old USA1 plate I have had that since I was in my Teens and on my Chevelle SS. I took it off but decided not to bend it back as a reminder. I hung it on the grage wall tonight.
Just like to take this opportunity to mention that if you are not wearing a seatbelt, an airbag can easily kill you. Happened to my dad in his '99 Ford Ranger. He had a very minor low speed impact into a ditch avoiding a bicyclist, and since he foolishly was not wearing a seat/shoulder belt, he slid forward and the bag broke his neck. I am sure all the folks on this forum never go beltless, but preach this to your friends.
Glad your Ok. The SS can be replaced. You couldnt be.
Chances are there is hidden damage, I would try to demand a replacement vehicle, That accident will be on the vehicle carfax. resulting in a lower value

I always wear mine, its just automatic that I wear it now
in Mass they cannot pull you over for not wearing your seatbelt,
They can only cite you if they pull you over for another offense and your not wearing your seatbelt.
But I drove a wrecker for many years and have seen the end result of not wearing your belt. usually its not good.

There is not don't believe there is much in hidden damage due to the fact it did not hit anything solid. The front just dug in and with the large airdam it just folded under.
I was looking at my clear plate cover and only the bottom is broken. The tops is still intact so the front bumper structure sould be ok.
The rear is just the bumper torn away and the a new one should bolt right up.
The wheels were all in the right direction and on the road the steering wheel was straight.
The fog lights took it hard but I could see the horn and it was untouched. the front airdam just foled under and the plastic tray was broken.
The intercooler and condenser are the only tow important mechanical things that may be damaged. I just nerve opened the hood to look as they were taking it away as I was still with the office.
