I run Royal Purple in everything I own, 5W30 in the HHR, Tahoe snf 350Z
15W40 in the Duramax Diesel. Also used to run it in the 750 HP 506 Chevy BBC drag car motor.

It's great stuff folks.

Canadian Tire had Mobil 1 5w 30 for $30.99 for 4.4L + 1L bonus about a month ago. Bought 2 sets and paid $30.00 Canadian Tire money. Ended up about $36.00 out of pocket. Wait for the sales and score big time .

Unless that is a synthetic that meets the above mentioned spec then your dealer is a fool since it is not what is required by GM to protect your warranty.

Yes! I wouldn't run 10W30 in any automotive gas engine built since the 80's.

10W-30 is the factory recommended multi-vis for my 1994 Dodge Dakota.

To the original poster, don't feel bound by Mobil 1. There are other synthetics out there of better quality. Penzoil Platinum is hard to beat, and Redline and Amsoil are both superior and true Group IV PAO synthetics, not hydro-cracked Group III base stocks like some of the mainstream brands.

But do feel bound by GM standard GM4718M 5W-30 if you don't want to invalidate your engine's warranty for no reason.

Would you care to name the "hydro-cracked Group III base stock" you are thinking of???

I assume you know that one of the largest producers of PAO's is rationing their product because of storm and weather problems. That is causing a shortage of a "certain", as you say, Hydro-cracked Group III.

If you are interested and wish the truth, read this......

BITOG is not correct about at least ONE of the claims they have made (at least currently). It's another instance of a perpetuated myth of the infamous internet carried to other sources as absolute gospel!!

But I do agree with the suggestion that many synthetics do meet the GM required standard. You are not obligated to use one specific brand.
