well as mentioned earlier in this thread, you can buy them in either chrome or pearl nickel at this site...

Do you like the HHR SS with or without roof rails? Why or why not?

What do you think? Do you like the HHR SS with or without roof rails? Why or why not?

Here's some examples:

WITH roof rails:

WITHOUT roof rails:

Function aside, while I do think that the roof rails visually break up the long stretch of bare roof, I think they detract from the "street rod" retro look. Roof rails on a standard HHR look more appropriate to me; it reminds me more of a surfer wagon as opposed to the custom / chopped hot rod look of the HHR SS. Just my opinion...

I just think it looks more "racey" without them

I think it looks better with..........however that doesn't mean that I have gotten over the fact that I never realized that crossrails were also an option! How frikkin stupid is that! Every other vehicle I purchased with roof racks came with everything, not piecemeal. My idiocy and raging aside, I think the rails break things up a bit.

Mine had them on it. I would not have spent the money if I ordered one but it dosen't look too bad. If it was chrome I probably would not have bought the car but the satin black rails on a black car were acceptable and the thousand dollar loyality was almost over.

I also would not of ordered with the roof rails put I think the black rails set off the Silverstone nicely going along with the black grille. Now that I have them they Rock.

If I wasn't so dead set on getting an SS I would probably go with the roof rails. I'm getting the HHR for the fuel econ and the ability to haul a little more than what my Cavalier and Camaro can do (mountain biking, camping maybe Kayaking...) and roof rails would help a lot..

but they just don't look right to me.

I like having roof rails and would get them on an SS, however, I do not like the black version that is available. I would rather have the chrome ones that are available on the other models.

I have them on my 2LT. But I doubt if I would order them again. IMO, they do not enhance the appearance and they essentially are non funtional (very light loads and the possible need of the dealer optioned X rails).

What can I say.....my wife liked them .

Also GM's testing says it cuts highway mileage by about 1 MPG. Not much, but a consideration if you purchased the vehicle for traveling (I did).

On the SS, I THINK the rails cut down the "sleakness" of the car. It's kind of like adding the windshield visor to the SS.....would disrupt the design flow of the car (visors look great when you are achieving a "surfer" look. Just don't think it goes with the SS vision and SPEED).
