Lots of people who have fast cars are in no mood to and have no inclination to race on the streets, even if they drive fast on the highway. Lots of people do drive fast on the highway, but racing is dangerous and 99% of people don't know how to safely do it, but think they are real race drivers. Obviously they should never do it on the street. Not only can they end up hurt or dead, they could kill innocent drivers just going to work or to the daycare with their kids.
If that had happened to me, I would thought you have a nice car, but if you tried to get me to race in morning rush hour traffic on the way to work; I would have ignored you, especially if you tried to ride my rear end. I bought my HHR SS because I needed space for a baby to sit in the back but wanted something cool and with higher performance that can go fast and get there quicker than the standard mini van, but was also very safe in case of a crash.
I have owned very fast cars, 1995 Impala SS, 2000 Camaro SS, and 2004 Pontiac GTO, 1973 Nova SS and I tried a race once when I was teenager. I destroyed a very nice car and was lucky enough to walk away unhurt. Since then, I am proud to say that all the cars listed above have never been in a street race situation and never will be. Especially with my son sitting in the back seat.
It just wasn't cool to try to get someone to run with you on the streets. Keep it on the track or the drag strip.

Some SRT4 tried to race me the other day. I said to other guy "You do realize this is an LS. I'm not a sleeper...yet"

Love it!

As far as the "keep it on the track" comments: I for one drive 2 1/2 HOURS and trek app. 120 miles one way to Raceway Park in Englishtown NJ, just to take it to the track (I ran my best-to-date 14.03 ET there on 10/10/10). Now I average 75-80 mph on the way there and pass several other modded cars en route... Sometimes I'll take them on, most times I won't. I'd never put my life or car at jeopary if there was heavy traffic but that's just me and this is my .02.

Later
