Wow, some dealers are giving away the SS now to clear them out.
I used to turn over cars every 3-4 years when they started to need repairs and major maintenance items. Now I keep them as long as I can. My Avalanche is over 8 years old and my Grand Prix is 6 years old. I plan on keeping the SS pretty long, and possibly giving it to one of my daughters in the future. As such it has been a long time since I traded in a car so resale has not affected me lately. I used to take a beating when I was trading in cars every 3-4 years.
Now on MY GTP it may hurt it since GM dumped a lot of GP's on Enterpise and the market is flooded with a lot of GT's cheap.
Well Canada is a whole different ball game on several levels. You have to deal with many things here that are non issues for us.
For the most Speculating collectors are killing the markets for those of us that just love cars.
I kept an 86 S-10 for 15 years, an 83 GMC van for 21 years, I still have my 02 Avalanche, and I plan on keeping the panel until the wheels fall off. The only vehicle I sold after a few years was my 99 Dakota R/T, but that was because it was jinxed. I paid 27 for my Panel SS, but I got it how I wanted, so I'm ok with the price.
I paid 25K cash for what I wanted, and intend to keep it as long as I can. I also have intentions of buying at least 2 more in the comming years (5sp SS, Panel SS)..... Great, my yard is gonna look like one of those guys that has half a dozen VW Bugs in various states of dis-repair cluttering up their drivway. hate it for the neighbors!
I had to order (and wait) my SS Panel built the way i wanted it. I'm hoping the fact that only 216 were made will help the resale value. I keep my vehicles for at least 10 years. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think thats the only way to justify buying a car new. I still have my old '97 Suzuki X90 for a winter car.
