My quest started by trying to confirm that the same component (#1265-5420) was used in both the 2.4L and the 2.2L. It is.

For the 2.2L:
intake (1265-5420)
exhaust (1265-5421)

No CEL... problem fixed. Next problem is to convince my wife to let me buy another HHR for our teenage daughter. (She likes my car and wants to take it away from me.)

later, Jimmy

thanks - will update the first posting on this thread to indicate that the 2.2's with VVT do use the same solenoids.

I just recently found out why my old 2008 2.2L had no solenoids. No VVT, duh!

I jury rigged a grommet from my parts bins so it would work -I think it was for holding a motorcycle side cover originally.
I just did the solenoid replacement, and also had the front grommet fall apart on me. GM calls this part an "Insulator". It's part #12563914, and it's current list is $3.47.

Thanks for posting this "how to"!

I have an '06 2.4L, and have the check engine light and hard shift traction light on.. Got the code ran today and it came back as P0011 for the intake cam position actuator. Any consensus as to whether I should have both intake and exhaust changed??

I changed both of mine when only one was giving an error code - it's not a hard job so either way works. You have to decide for yourself.

Exclamation

Hi, I didn't want to miss out on the party!

2009 HHR 2.4

Current Fault Log
------------------
P0010: "A" Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 1)

Is this covered under warranty? If not, just double checking what part(s) I will want to get ordered. The wife hasn't noticed any driving issues, so is it OK to drive until we get it fixed?

Thanks!

If you still have drivetrain warranty, then it is covered.

The part numbers, and prices, are detailed in the first posting in this thread. If she hasn't noticed the hard shifting............. Shame.

It's sort of ok to drive - I would not want to put a bag of miles on it though, and be gentle with the throttle. It can't be that good for the transmission, nor the engine mounts, or the flex pipe on the exhaust.

It's an easy fix - less than 45 minutes taking your time with it - all detailed in the first post in this thread.

Thanks for the quick reply, whopper. I just wanted to double check since there have been so many requests / variations. So my best bet would be to replace both solenoids, and use the newest part #'s of: 12655420 and 12655421?
