Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Replacement (w. pics) - P0010/11 P0013/14
2009 HHR With P0010 Code
Hi, I'm new here. My 2009 HHR CEL light came on so I took it to the auto parts store and had the code read. It came up with P0010. My husband and I are illiterate when it comes to auto repair but we're smart enough to know that dealers can sometimes take advantage of people like us. It looks like we probably need a CMP Actuator Solenoid from what I'm reading here. We have a friend who knows an auto repairman and we're sending all the valuable information I gleaned here to him. So to make sure, it looks like we probably should replace both the CMP Actuator solenoids for intake and exhaust and the part numbers are 12646783 and 12646784. If there is any other problem it would probably be the wiring or the connector, right? I hope I'm using correct terminology here!

As far as the P0010 is concerned, that may or may not be relevant at all without the accompanying P0011, P0013 and/or P0014 those tell you exactly where to look.
Welcome Tomtomant - part numbers 12646783 and 12646784 have been updated as noted in the first post in this thread as follows (oldest p/n to the latest, at least with the latest info I have):
Intake 12628347 = 12646783 = 12655420
Exhaust 12628348 = 12646784 = 12655421
So the parts you need are the Intake: 12655420, and Exhaust:12655421. and Donbrew is right - I'd recommend sticking with genuine GM ones - and if you hit up a GM dealer, they can verify the part numbers for you.
Being you got the p0010 code, it indicates a problem only with the intake side, however, they aren't that pricey - so if you are paying someone to replace them, it sorta makes sense to replace them both while it is apart.

Issue with P0010 trouble code, also P0011
I am having the same issue as these other guys with the CEL and getting the P0010 and P0011 trouble codes. Before I replaced both CPS's the code reader showed (P0010) Cam. Pos. SENSOR and (P0011) Cam. Pos. Timing Over Advanced (Bank 1).......after I replaced both CPS's, now its showing (P0010) Cam. Pos. ACTUATOR CIRCUIT/Open (Bank 1) and again (P0011) Cam. Pos. Timing Over-Advanced (Bank 1). So, does this mean that since I replaced both of the CPS's, its now showing what is actually wrong and it IS the Actuators? I'm hoping this is the case so I don't have to sink any more $$$ and time into this before having to take it into a mechanic. I am definitely a DIY guy and try not to throw money out the window. Here in Tennessee, we have this stupid vehicle inspection we have go through with emissions before we can get our tags renewed. Mine expire at the end of March so I need to get this fixed ASAP. I'm guessing I wasted my money on the sensors? Please help!!!

The CPS have their own codes. First thing to do when somebody tells you an OBDII code is to GOOGLE the code. Do not, under any circumstances, trust the interpretation on the reader or the person that reads it. And then of course pop the code into our SEARCH box to find what hundreds of people have done to fix it.
You are not alone! Most people get the wrong parts when read by Advance/Zone/O'reilly boys.
