I made the same solder repair on one of my FOB's when it quit. I'm guessing the other is just as bad. The company that makes these things should simply go away for such poor quality.

I don't solder. Folded a piece of paper and layed it on top of the battery and it works fine now.

OK you get the "Common Sense" award. As for my Fobs, BOTH of mine are busted. I do solder but not very well. The mother in law used to do electronic solder work for a living so I am going to ask her for help. Finally she will be good for something.

It worked for both keyfobs and I did not break them. Thank you for the good instructions.

Hi to All,
If you need fine soldering check with your local watch repair or jewlery repair. Chances are they have already repaired their own. Timemasters in Torrance Ca. repaired two for $18.00. Good luck.

It is not exactly a "cold solder" problem, just bad miniturization. The real prob is you need to solder contacts on BOTH sides of the board, if they would just provide a tab to fold over on the backside, they would avoid much complaining and replacing. The reason that the cage appears to not be flush to the board after it has broken is that the pin has pulled out of the hole due to spring pressure. that pin needs to be secured on BOTH sides of the board, the piece of folded paper works (sometimes) because there is enough solder left in the hole to provide through contact.

Key Fob Problems

Hi all! I work for a mobile electronics installation center in Buffalo, NY. We see broken GM key fobs at least once a day here - luckily we can solder! It isnt just the HHR (although when I bought my HHR, the fobs that they handed me both had the solder issue). Thanks for a great forum!
