You probably already figured out you should be one level up in the directory.

The same thing can happen if you remove the old battery in the "intuitive" way, it looks like you should lift then pull.... but you really have to remove the sillycone pad and then Carefully push the old one out with NO lifting at all is involved, likewise for inserting the new one.

My buddy actually soldered it for me...he works on radios and electronics at work. Did it in <2 min with a pencil solderer. Kinda worked for a day but had to be close to the car...forgot to give him the new battery. Will try that next to see if it helps. Really don't want to have to get a new one

The first car we ever owned with a remote entry key fob was the wife’s dads LHS. Both if the fobs for that car had quit working so he just carried them with the keys and manually unlocked the doors with the key.

After he died and the wife inherited the car I took a look at the remotes and figured out how to open them. The battery clip was not broken in either of them the battery was just dead.

Later we bought a 05 Dodge Neon with remote entry key fobs for our daughter. Within less than a year neither of the key fobs would work to unlock the doors. Again I figured the batteries were dead.

Not this time, both the battery clips were loose and floating around inside. I used some de-soldering braid to clean out the through the board hole and put a short piece of copper wire through then soldered the clip to those.

When we bought our 06 HHR this spring one of the key fobs worked to unlock the doors but would not do the remote start or lock functions and the other did nothing.

I figured the batteries were either dead or very weak so popped them apart. The one that did not work at all had the broken battery clip and a dead battery the one that sorta worked was just totally filthy inside. I cleaned the PC board and the carbon pads with alcohol and spiffed up the copper on the PC board with a ink pen eraser.

Both work fine now.

BTW the dealer wanted something like $12.00 for replacement batteries. I found that the Dollar Tree has the same alkaline batteries three in a pack for,… you guessed it one dollar.

I repaired my sisters HHR keyfobs(2) that had quit working some time ago. Both keyfobs had the battery retaining clip, completely detached from the PC board. Very easy to repair, though i'm not convinced that the repair is going to last a long time.

The keyfobs looks to have been engineered so it would fail, after a period of time. Too much pressure is being applied by the battery clip, to the battery in the keyfob. Poor engineering IMHO. The 3 small solder ''dots'' that secure the battery clip to the PC board, are not enough to do a good job. It's not a cold solder case IMHO. What happens, is that the battery clip is actually pryed out of the tiny welds, that attaches the clip to the PC board, due to the pressure applied to the battery!!

Add a bit of foam to hold the battery cage down.

^ THAT is the best thing I've heard in a while. All my remotes use these batteries, and the price kills me. I got the last ones at AutoZone, but they were still something like $6.
