Yes, use a pencil eraser and rubbing alcohol. If the contacts on the rubber are worn out, you can get a replacement case that includes the pad on Ebay for around $10 or the keyless fix thing that is referenced in this thread.

I took all of your collective advice and fixed my dead remote! Works like a champ. Cleaned the back of the pads with alcohol and glued some foil in. Went to do it to my "good" remote and found that it had a broken battery clip solder. Went ahead and foiled the pads on that one too, but will get it soldered this week.

Thanks for the advice!

Foil works

My remote stopped working about 1 year ago and I just did not want to pay the dealer or anyone else $250 (part and programming). Just read a post on using tin foil--so I did.

Tore offf a couple of small pieces placed in the pad socket and bam! My remote is now working fine! Thanks for the tip! Didn't use exacto knife or glue like suggested and got the same results!

This website is aswsome--wish I could find the post I saw so I could think the person who gave this info--but you know who you are and I thank you very much!!!

Another satisfied customer! I couldn't figure out why one of my remotes suddenly quit working. I tried a new battery and still nothing. Then I figured it needed to be reprogrammed so I began searching for the way to do that. That's when I found out you can't reprogram them without a special scan tool - bummer. Then I ran across this fix! When I reopened the fob, the center tab was still holding but the side arms where raised-up. Before I read this whole post, I just put a drop of solder on the tabs and the remote works again. After reading all the responses and additional instructions, I see I'll need to redo my work to add a couple of fine wires to ensure the side arms stay down.

A big THANK YOU! to all who posted this fix!

Thanks for the reminder on this. Mine didn't work at one time this past weekend. Just checked and 2 of the 3 solder joints are broken. Will fix this tonight.

My first attempt at soldering was a success.

Now I am staring at the stack of dead computer mother boards in my house.
