MAP sensor replacement

After doing a search, I could not find anything on replacing the MAP sensor on a 2.4 HHR. The part itself is small yet quite expensive, listing for $116.70 at the Chevy dealer. No tools are required to install it, but it is in a tight spot and hard to reach. I should have taken a picture of it's location while it was removed, but forgot to. It just pulls straight up, then you just squeeze the wire harness to remove it. Installing it is a bit tricky, since you have to align the sensor with the plastic runners which are attached to the engine and slide it down. Then I used a flat blade screw driver to firmly push it into place.

I have been getting the PO106 code for years now, and I am glad I finally got around to replacing it. Hopefully this will help the more bothersome T/C problem I have also had for years.

I have $0.02 bet that your wiring harness is to blame for both of your codes. Either the plug ends or a chafe.

It was cold out so I was rushing the photos-but that is taken from the top looking down. The rectangular metal piece is the fuel rail. I checked the connectors and wires and they all appeared good and fit snug. But I want to do the wire test shown in a You Tube video-tug on each wire to make sure it is solid

Thanks Lee. Yeah I was just looking at it wrong.
I'm not familiar with the 2.4, so my mind just couldn't tell me exactly where I was looking. I've got it now.

Lee333 - hopefully that will resolve the T/C issues for you. I have a new MAP sensor waiting to be installed but I have been procrastinating thinking the throttle body had to be removed to get at the sensor.

It sounds like we have had the same problem with the T/C light popping up intermittently, with abrupt shifting (the P0106 only popped up a couple of times for me).

Whopper, changing the MAP is not as bad as it looks. Just pull straight up and it comes out. It is a bit tricky lining up the new one to push in since it has to fit inbetween the plastic bracket above it. But with patience you will get it in. Good luck.

Now I have to go to Pep Boys and buy the 2 cleaners and see if I can get rid of that pesky PO121 so I can pass inspection.

Dude, these are $38 and the original manufacturer, same price for the ACDelco's. There is also a 3rd party brand for $25

Never buy from a dealer.

GM and AC Delco are specific to the model, other third party are generic to the brand , witness the issue with T-Stats I've had issues with other GM cars in the past with generic MAF sensors. The GM specific units worked right out of the box, but to each their own!

OK, and that site has the GM brand one for $38... if someone paid over $100 they got ripped off.
