First HHR

I bought my wife an 06 hhr. Actually has a salvage title but I got it cheap so I couldn't hardly pass it up. Had to replace all the door speakers. Also think it needs a thermostat cause its throwing a p0128 code. Besides those we are liking it. Then I hit a deer last night. We only have liability cause of it having a salvage title. The only thing I can tell is hurt is the hood. I'm going to get some quotes, but will probably buy a hood and paint it myself. I'm not a Chevy person by any means, but we'll see how this goes.

to the forum!

Yup, when they throw a P0128 code, it's the thermostat 9 out of 10 times. Especially if the temp display on the DIC is flatlined along with the analog gauge.

Here's a "How To" thread on changing out the 'stat, 2.2 and 2.4 engines are functionally the same when doing the work.

Sorry to hear you had a run in with Bambi's cousin, but there's tons of info here, be sure to check out our Search function.....and don't hesitate to ask questions.

Welcome to the site. Sorry about the deer hit. They can do a lot of damage to a car. I'm guessing the damage isn't too bad because you didn't say anything about air bags going off. If you look around at the junk yards you can probably find a hood in the color you need so not having to paint it you can save some money.

Or, claim a "custom 2-tone" paint job.

I put a new black primed hood on my wife's 2000 Mazda Protege about 10 years ago and never got around to painting it. All the tuner boys try to get her to race.

the thermostat was easy and fixed the problem. I'm taking it to a local body shop today. They quoted it at 525 to fix and repair. I bought this HHR for my wife. I was secretly hoping she wouldn't like it so I could have it.

525 dollars for repairs at a body shop sounds like a good deal. I would have a hard time getting a hood and painting it my self for that money.

Welcome to the site! Sorry to hear about your misfortunate run-in with the dear. But it look like it won't be too costly. Definitely better to pay out of pocket than turn in to insurance and have your rates jacked.
