Hello everyone, I am brand new to the HHR and the forum,, I just purchased my first HHR, and trust me I have my work cut out for me.

I almost bought the HHR back in 2006, but me and my wife decided on a new 2006 Base G6 Pontiac. I had a F350 PS Dually at the time for our Lake Erie Fifth wheel and Charter Business, so she wanted the smaller vehicle to replace her 96 Suburban.

We now have 99,500 miles on the 2.4L eotech in the G6, and to date have not had one single issue with it except for a plugged Convertrer that GM covered when it was just shy of 5 years old. Today I am getting to replace the flex pope on the exhaust and do the 100K maintenance. But for the past year in all 4 seasons it is averaging 28.2 mpg, and will get around 36 mpg on the highway on trips.

This is a big reason I just bought a 2009, one owner LT2 with all options and 27,486 actual miles. The problem is it runs and drives, but needs a whole new front end, hood bumper fenders, inner and outer, bumper support and cover. I am her because I have many questions before I start this project!!

1) I am thinking of the SS front end, I like the more massive look, but I am also wondering how much this will detract from the aerodynamics and nock the fuel mileage. I have completely retired and we plan on doing some traveling, and mileage is one of our priorities.

2) When I start this fix, how much better are OEM parts over after market,, with less than 28K miles, we do plan on having it for years to come!

If anyone could guide me to the forums I need for this project and my questions, I would be great full, and trust me there will be many more!!

Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this forum and in advance thanks for all the knowledge members share here,,

Bob

Welcome!

Feel free to use the search tool and browse the forums there is 12 years worth of information here.

The only difference in the SS body is the bumper cover and the grille, to make room for the intercooler.

If you are talking sensors and electronics usually Genuine GM is better, however, as the last HHR was made in 2011 GM parts are getting made by different vendors than they originally were. Recently the parts books have been incorrect for many parts, including GM books.

Side note: One reason for a flex pipe failure is a bad motor or trans mount. You would be smart to inspect them.

Welcome to the site.

As Don suggested try the Search function. There were several members here that have put SS bumpers on their regular HHR's. There should be some old threads about this conversion.
As he stated, you'll have to use a SS main grille to fill up the larger opening that it creates. Regular HHR grilles are shorter than the SS one.
May as well get the matching lower grill too since it's just a plastic diamond mesh style.
