I am from Sudbury Ontario and were looking for something good on fuel and roomy and are about to buy our first HHR and as usual now we have amde our pick we are being told this car is not good on gas and has strut issues we have decided to ignore the rumors and stick to our pick that said I have a few questions I would like your opinions on if you don't mind me asking. I would love the SS but they are few and far between and priced high so we are looking at ones between 2007 and 2009 there does not seem to be much difference in the LS and the LT1 and most seem to be 2.2 the one we found we are leaning toward is a 2009 white LS with 13,000km and a 2.2 at $12,000.00 however there is also a 2007 LT2 with leather 2.4 and 56,000 km for $10,500.00 any advice would be appreceated also can someone tell me how this car is in the snow as we get winter here from mid -November until about mid March. I would like to be driving by the weekend LOL

 

Welcome to the site. the differents between LS,1LT and 2LT is all about the options LS you can get some 1LT you can get some more and 2LT you can get all the options available. I have an 08 2LT and love the heated seats in the winter. The 2LT has the 2.4 motor and it gets slightly less fuel milage. Mine gets an average city and highway comb. of 28 mpg.My fathers 07 LS with a 2.2 gets about two to four more then mine mpg. as far as struts I don't beleve that the hhr is any worse than other cars out there. I have 38000 on mine and no struts yet my father had to put struts on his under warranty because they were leaking. what ever you pick I hope you will enjoy it. Use the search at the top of the page and you can find more info just remember that people will write all the bad things with there car but few will take the time to write about how great the car has been. I almost forgot. You asked about winter driving. The firestone tires that the car came with didn't seem so good in the snow. after I changed tires I was very happy also I have not tried but I an told that tire chains will not fit on an hhr if thats a deal breaker.

 

Welcome to the site I went to Edmonton 3 weeks at Christmas mother nature was not kind,we had no trouble with only very good all season Tires. Had trouble walking on the ice, but not driving. Here's a tip,get splash guards,full bra,and a jug of Rain-X,and if I lived up there I'd get a set of winter tires on steel wheels. There are lots of HHR owners in the Great White North. I'm sure you will hear from a few here.

Thanks guys for the advice I have been in the car business for 40 years started as a lot guy while in high school when I finished school I worked in the GM truck plant for 14 years quit that and started selling Pontiac/Buick/Caddy for 22 years. I have driven a ton of cars but never an HHR just sold my 2009 Audi A4 and decided on the HHR as a replacement which is probably the only GM I have never had LOL. I am also a Super Moderator at an FTA site if anyone needs help with FTA let me know. I'll be a regular pain in the butt around here as I "personalize" our HHR LOL

I'm in Minnesnowta you'll be fine. Have only had mine since Feb but had a chance to give it a good test drive in plenty of snow and ice. And I was happy with it. FWD, Traction control, ABS is all you need - IMO


It's the least expensive vehicle I have bought in a while and having more with it than anything I have owned.

Still can't get over just going in the garage and looking it over , DW is getting tired of hearing about it.
