Hints for HHR hunting

JX3, get on YahooCars and Cars.com and search for HHRs in your area. I spent three weeks looking at these and running CarFax reports online ($30.00 for a month of unlimited use). I searched all around and came up with "Elvis", my 2009 2LT with 13k miles. I paid $14,300, and it looked near new when I got it. It does not have leather or a sunroof, but has most everything else. Look around and don't jump at the first one you see. Seriously compare, and you'll start to see trends and can tell a good deal. You can sort my miles, price, etc. I hope this helps. I like my HHR, and am very happy i held out for the 2.4 liter engine. Lots of zip, especially in the usuable mid-range. If you don't mind traveling, the folks at Kenly Chevrolet in Kenly, NC know how to pick a used car and how to deal (919-284-2131). God Bless, and happy hunting, Marc

I paid right around $14,000 for my used 08 2LT with 24,000 miles.

Well, we are now the owners of a gray '06 HHR. Found it at a local Chevy dealer, 1-owner, GM certified with 30K miles. Pretty much loaded with leather heated seats, sunroof, chrome wheels, running boards, new tires, roof rack and the Pioneer system. We are happy. I am sure I will be using this forum for questions and advice!

Congratulations on your purchase! I just procured my HHR yesterday and am loving it. I'm sure you'll fall in love with your car just as I did.

One thing that kinda shocked me though was the lack of aftermarket roof racks. I have the chrome roof rails now and, if there actually existed a from-the-roof-up alternative, I'd remove those rails in a second for an actual, high load capacity Thule or Yakima as I've had before. The only thing I've seen is a Thule adapter kit for the factory rails. I've played around with those rails and I was able to wiggle 'em with my bare hands; I don't know how sturdy those things are.
