New to this forum

Hey, my name's Ken. New here, but not to forums in general. I need help already, I can't seem to find a place to put in a key word search, such as Dexcool. I know there is a lot of bad about it, and I am trying to figure out what to do in my situation. So, is there a search tool on this forum???

Search bar is located at top right. Second tool bar, right under the middle of the wheel. What is your question on dex cool?

Thanks, found it. I guess I just wasn't signed in right to see it. Anyway, here's my problem. Have a 2007 HHR LT. Has 50,4XX miles on it. Just had an issue on wednesday with my temp gauge not working, and A/C blowing warm air. that's how I found this forum, and diagnosed the problem While reading some people hinted toward Dex Cool being very bad. So now I'm trying to figure out what I should do in my case. I can't believe my thermostat is going bad in just 50K miles. And I want to keep my car running good ahead of any problems Chevy built into it for me

I would put a thermostat in and add dex cool if needed.

I never heard of Dex Cool being bad, just required by GM not Ford or Chrysler or Toyota or ...etc.; some people take "required" as bad especially by the General.
What is the connection between A/C blowing warm and temp gauge not working?
There could be NO connection I know of other than broken (open) heater valve, and that (might!) show low temp reading and warm A/C.
Did you check too be sure that the temp control is set all the way to cool? (blue side, counter clock wise). Some people have never experienced the heat mixing with A/C, on purpose. I know that my wife would never even look; if one day it was cold outside and the next she turned the A/C on, she would just complain that the A/C was broken. This happens every year at least once.
Somewhere I remember seeing a description of organic coolant v. non-organic, it may be on this forum. I seem to remember that it basically comes down to alloys used in the engine, and that the 2 cannot be mixed because of corrosion problems.

BCM commands a/c off if it gets an input from temp guage indicating overheating.

OK, these are the things I have found out really quickly by accident. I Googled "HHR, Temperature Gauge, A/C" That's how I found this forum. Apparently several of the forum users here have experienced this problem. Apparently if the computer notices an unacceptable variance in the time it takes the engine to warm up, either too fast, or too slow it throw a P0128 code. Something in that circuit causes the temp gauge to stop working, and the A/C to stop working. when I pulled the ground off the battery and reset the computer all the symptoms went away. So I continued to do some research and found there was a lawsuit (but you had to be signed up to it by sometime 2008 to be a part of it) either against Dex Cool, or G/M Diamler Chrysler, not real sure didn't pertain since I can't be a part anyway. However what I read said GM vehicles are notorious for cooling, heating, water pump, head gasket failures since this change to Dex Cool. Now I admit a lot of people complaining owned mid to late 90's cars, but a few were later models. So I am hopeful they corrected this issue, however doubtful since they are notorious for not owning up to their mistakes. So that's what I know so far. And any help from people on here would be great.
