Hello from Atlanta Georgia. Just joined the forum today. Have been a proud owner of my HHR since I took it off the lot in 2010, brand spanking new. Love her, love her, love her... haven't had any issues with my girl ever.... just started having engine light coming on alert this month. Taking her in for an oil change tomorrow, will purchase a new gas cap...and of course have them check out the system to see if anything else is going on with her other then needing a new cap. Joined forum to learn from others on the life of owning a HHR. See you in the forum.

Welcome to the forum BB2010.

Curious has to how you determined the gas cap was the problem. A check engine light(CEL) means a trouble code is detected. Could be one of many things. You need to have the car checked with a scan tool to determine what code number it is detecting.

He might be talking about the CHECK GAS CAP warning on the DIC. I have an 06,not sure about 10. Do not assume the problem is the gas cap. I replaced mine with an after market and an OEM and still says to check it. Can't remember the code but it is for a large evap leak. Being a LARGE leak it assumes the gas cap is off. Been to lazy to get under the car to check out the evap system by fuel tank.

SMALL leak is cap, Large leak is in the vent circuit usually.

Thanks, that will give me a place to start. Then why does it throw a code for a large leak and the DIC still gives a Cap warning even though it's been replaced. Is there a connection?
