Hello, Everyone in HHR Land! Just a quick introduction. My name is Todd. My wife and I acquired a 2008 2LT on 20 February from Silver City Motors in Silverdale, WA. I had been searching for the "ideal" HHR for many weeks, and eventually narrowed it down to this one. It's color is Sunburst Orange. It's had two previous owners - the first one in Pennsylvania, and the second one in Yakima, WA. Except for the first 5 months, this car has been in Washington for the majority of its life. When I drove it off the lot, it had about 32,400 miles on the odo; now it's appoaching 33,600.
The only "thing" that I haven't been able to figure out is a way to deactivate the tiny bluish white "spotlight" that's housed in the same module as the Bluetooth microphone and moonroof switch. It comes on when headlights are activated. It really doesn't bother me that much, only when I'm driving in very dark conditions, I'd rather not have it distracting me. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

to the forum Todd, and congrats on your new ride! That little LED is there to illuminate the window switches and auxiliary controls on the center stack or "Waterfall" in HHR-ese. It comes on with the headlights and instrument lights, the only way to get rid of it, it to pop the module out of the headliner and physically disconnect it. Some folks here have replaced the LED with another color, red and blue are popular choices.

I noticed your location is Kannapolis - the cradle of NASCAR legends. Also not to far from my family roots (Hickory, NC). Spent many a wonderful Summer there with my cousins, back in the 60's.
You're one of the few people here to know that Kannapolis exists outside of North Carolina members. Yeah, the NASCAR legends are centered in this part of the state, I grew up just down the block from the Earnhardt clan, we still take Dale's mom Martha out for Sunday lunch about once a month.
Great question, and good timing, too. The dealer did an outstanding job of detailing the car before I took delivery, which included Rain-X treatment. As it's been about six weeks since then, I do believe it's time to locate that distinctive yellow bottle (somewhere in my garage) and do the application. On a similar subject, I recently replaced (what I believe to be) the original rear wiper blade, and that made a huge difference.
