new owner here!

hi everyone, last night i purchased a 2011 red hhr lt model with 22,000 miles on her. neighbor has one and i found it comfy so when i saw this one for sale took it for a test drive and loved it. traded in my 07 toyota yaris which was a great run around car for 6 and a half years but it was time to upgrade. so is there anything i need to do to it right away? has 2 months original warranty left, should i try to buy an extended warranty from chevy or is it a waste of money? didn't buy it from a chevy dealer-the dealer i bought it from includes a 2 year warranty on the engine and transmission. just wanted to say hi from the burbs of the frigid windy city!

Welcome to the site and congrats on your new car.

If you have not had your mechanic look it over its alway a good idea to do so.

There are a lot of opinions on extended warranties. I think there expensive and unnecessary. But I do all my own repairs.

What ever you do read the fine print and ask questions. Some company's will only let you take your car in to there repair shop and not cover the repair at other shops or at least fight about it.

Welcome to the site.

A 2011 will have the 36 month bumper to bumper warranty. Plus it will have the 5 year 100k mile powertrain warranty. Both of these start on the day the original 1st owner purchased.
So. Sounds like you have 2 months left on the bumper to bumper and then the additional 2 years of the powertrain.( doesn't look like you'll surpass the mileage limit)
Buying an extended warranty now is up to you. Seems like a waste to me at this time with the warranty you have left.

to the forum, and congrats on your new ride!

Aftermarket and extended warranties are something to research with great care, there are many pitfalls and loopholes to consider.

Do your research, and as George pointed out above, you probably have some of the GM warranty left, so don't make a snap decision.

All the above is good information. I will just add.......

If you like and trust GM they have an extended warranty (remember, it is not really a warranty, it's repair policy). There are several different grades of policies and varies mileage/ time intervals and deductibles, and if interested, one of them MUST BE IMPLEMENTED before the basic 36 month/36,000 mile warranty expires.

You can find them, at discount, by various GM dealers on the Internet.

thanks, i have 2 months original warranty left on her. the used car dealer gave me some extended warranty called Q certified. supposedly covers powertrain and engine for 2 years but i don't put much faith in it. so far she drives nice, i was shocked at how large the gas tank was when i went and filled up with gas. guess i was used to the small tank in the yaris. my 9 year old lab loves riding in the back seat, now i will have windows that actually open back there for her. the hhr was bought for my lab so she could easily get in and out of the car. my yaris was a hb and she used to be able to jump in the back hatch but now she has arthritis and needed something lower. i think her and i will love the hhr. it certainly is more comfortable for both of us. i need seat covers and floor mats, any ideas guys?

Welcome to the forum. I'm originally from the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Elk Grove Village to be exact, but I currently live in Tennessee. Enjoy your HHR and congrats on the new purchase.
